Under section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972 to confer upon a recently

retired Councillor, who, in the opinion of the Council, has rendered eminent service to the Borough, the title of ‘Honorary Alderman’.

The meeting had been called under section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972 to consider conferring the title of Honorary Alderman to former councillor Kath Rowson in recognition of her eminent service to the Council. 

Speeches of support were made by Councillor Blackburn and Councillor Cross.

Additional congratulations were offered by Councillors T Williams and G Coleman.

Motion:  Councillor Blackburn proposed (and Councillor Amy Cross seconded):

‘To confer the title of ‘Honorary Alderman’ of the Borough of Blackpool under section 249(1) of the Local Government Act 1972 to former councillor Kath Rowson’.

Motion carried:  The motion was submitted to the Council and was unanimously carried.

The Mayor then presented Kath Rowson with a gift and the Honorary Alderman was given an opportunity to address the Council.
